Jimmy Swaggert: Rock & Roll Quote

Submitted by Rock and Roll Guru Blog

“All of the rock music being aired today is demonically inspired. Any individual listening to it is entering into communion with a wickedness and evil spawned in hell.”~Jimmy Swaggert
And we all know how much credibility Jimmy Swaggert has.
Ironically, Jimmy is a cousin of Jerry Lee Lewis.

I’m the “Freak of the Week!”

Submitted by Rock and Roll Guru Blog

It’s been a wonderfully chaotic week here at headquarters. One of the highlights is that I’ve been named “Freak of the Week” by Dave Rendall on his fabulous blog, Freak Factory. Dave is a rockin’ author, speaker, consultant and all-around groovy cat who believes in “embracing uniqueness by flaunting [...]

Steven Tyler: Rock & Roll Quote

Submitted by Rock and Roll Guru Blog

“There was a gap out there in the zit-pocked heart of the teenage wasteland and we were determined to fill it. We were the real thing-hard rock, booty-shaking music with nasty lyrics…I lived by the old rock star manual: wretched excess in dandified duds.”~Steven Tyler
That sums up Aerosmith nicely, [...]

Rosanne Cash - The List (2009)

Submitted by Bloggerhythms Blog
Is there anyone out there who still doesn’t know that Rosanne Cash’s father was the late Johnny Cash and her stepmother the late June Carter Cash? If this is breaking news to you then the singer’s latest CD, The List, is probably not for you. Please stop reading right now and go [...]

Me and The Beatles?

Submitted by Rock and Roll Guru Blog

I had a very cool dream last night that I was hanging out with the Beatles. It was in their younger days when they were still wearing suits.
I’m hoping the later hippie Beatles show up tonight.
I’ll keep you posted.

Jerry Garcia: Rock & Roll Quote

Submitted by Rock and Roll Guru Blog

“You need music. I don’t know why. It’s probably one of those Joseph Campbell questions, why we need ritual. We need magic and bliss and power and myth and celebration and religion in our lives and music encapsulates a lot of it.”~Jerry Garcia
Well put, Uncle Jerry.
We miss you.

A whole bunch of groovy birthdays on this date in Rock and Roll History.
The Hawk, Ronnie Hawkins, turns 75 today. Thanks for getting The Band together, Ronnie!

The Beach Boys - Sunflower (1970)

Submitted by Bloggerhythms Blog

It’s quite possible that you’ve never listened to Sunflower. It quickly became one of the poorest selling and most obscure albums in The Beach Boys catalog when it was released in 1970. According to Wikipedia, it was only on the charts for four weeks and reached #151 in the United States. In [...]

Jackson Browne - Running On Empty (1977)

Submitted by Bloggerhythms Blog

Most singer-songwriters seem to have a short shelf life. They issue three or four excellent albums early in their careers, win over the critics and much of the public, and then coast for the next twenty-five or thirty years. Perhaps they just run out of things to say. Finally, after they shake [...]

JIMI HENDRIX AND LORD KITCHENER’S VALET

Submitted by RockPhiles Blog
Here’s a neat clip - Lord Kitchener’s Valet was a very successful, high-end boutique in London (Soho) in the late 60s. Mostly featuring antique military jackets (think Sgt. Pepper’s album cover).
Jimi Hendrix bought the Hussar’s jacket, featured in the interview with Robert Orbach of Lord Kitchener’s Valet, and can be seen in this [...]
