January 30, 1969: The Beatles played in front of an audience for the very last time.
The Fab Four played their final set in London on the roof of their Apple headquarters. The gig lasted less than 45 minutes before the police shut them down.
Fortunately, it was recorded and some [...]

Marty Balin: Rock & Roll Birthday

Submitted by Rock and Roll Guru Blog
Happy Birthday to Marty Balin!
Marty is the silky smooth vocalist who co-founded of the Jefferson Airplane and helped to define the San Francisco sound. I fell in love with Marty’s voice the first time I heard him sing “Today” from Surrealistic Pillow, the Airplane’s second album. In the seventies [...]

Words About Music

Submitted by Bloggerhythms Blog
The quote by writer and music critic Tom Moon posted under this blog’s banner is from the cover of his excellent book 1,000 Recordings To Hear Before You Die. It’s probably my favorite quote about music. Moon’s words got me thinking about other musical quotes I’ve read so today, instead of writing [...]

Warren Zevon: Rock & Roll Philosophy

“Enjoy every sandwich”~Warren Zevon
This was part of Warren’s response shortly before he died when David Letterman asked him what advice he’d like to leave to the world.
This dovetails perfectly with my Rock and Roll Philosophy that there are no ordinary moments.
I love you and miss you, Warren!

Edgehill Avenue - Rambler (2009)

Submitted by Bloggerhythms Blog

Southern rock is still alive and kicking and the vessel supplying its nourishment is a five piece unit from Louisville, Kentucky, Edgehill Avenue. They just released their first full length CD, Rambler, and it’s a dandy. To these ears the group sounds more like The Marshall Tucker Band than anyone else but [...]

Johnny Rotten was fired from the Sex Pistols 32 years ago today.
The band’s reason for dismissing him: he wasn’t weird enough anymore.
How cool would that look on a resume? Reason for leaving last job? They said I wasn’t weird enough anymore, but I’m improving in that area.
