Neil Young: Rock & Roll Wisdom

“Don’t let it bring you down, it’s only castles burning…”~Neil Young

This is great advice, unless you happen to live in the castle that is burning. In that case, it’s acceptable to let it bring you down for a little while. And if you forgot to get the castleowners insurance, you’re screwed.

If you do not live in a castle, please follow Neil’s gentle advice. Or, if you need a kick in the ass, the Eagles said it more straightforwardly in the song “Get over it!”

The point is, if it is not a life or death issue, stop catastrophizing.

There is very little that is important enough to bring you down, and certainly not for any longer than it takes you to realize you’re feeling down. When you become aware that you are down, just take a few deep breaths and deliberately begin the journey back up the emotional ladder one step at a time.

If indeed you do own a castle and it is not burning, call me. We need to talk.
