“People Are Strange…” Rock & Roll Wisdom from The Doors

“People are strange when you’re a stranger.”-The Doors
When you opt to stand out from the crowd by being who you are without regard to fitting in, people will often treat you like a stranger. They will also make assumptions about you without knowing anything about you. Love them anyway.
I actually relish living the role of the misfit, as I have been one my entire life.
Sometimes I’ll leave my home office around midday and head to downtown Milwaukee to walk amidst the hustle and bustle of people scurrying around to fit in a meal and errands on their lunch hour.
Typically, on these excursions I’m dressed in sweats, unshaven and boppin’ (half dancing and half walking) along to some groovy tunes. In other words, I am having myself a good old time. It’s hilarious to me how the suits look at me as if I’m mentally deranged. They act like I’m the strange one, even though it should be clear to anyone who is paying attention that I am having a splendiferously delightful time.
On one of these occasions a guy at a stoplight even offered me some spare change. While I bit my lip to avoid laughing, I graciously accepted the change. Then I silently offered up a prayer for him and walked over to the Salvation Army kettle where I dropped the change.
Yes, people certainly are strange. I know I am. And I revel in it.
Led Zep, the Stones and The Who are just some of our favorites. Any modern bands come to mind? What are your thoughts? Register on Rock and Roll Blog now and get published within minutes. Before posting, it is recommended that you review our posting guidelines.
