“Smiling breaks the rules.”–Jefferson Airplane
“What are you smiling about?” Has anyone ever asked you that? They act as if you’re breaking some sort of social rule or engaging in clandestine behavior.
Screw stupid rules!
People who do not break stupid rules on a daily basis are typically living the lives of quiet desperation that the philosophers wax about so eloquently. It is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to consistently experience the joy that we desire and deserve when we’re so busy adhering to rules that were established by others.
Just for today, make your own rules and see how much fun it is. If you don’t like it you can always go back to the way you’ve always done things.
Here’s a little poem I wrote more than thirty years ago that has become the basis of my life philosophy.
If
If you make the rules, should you win the game?
Of course!
If you can make the rules, you can win.
If you can win, you should.
If you should win, you must.
If you must win, you will.
Are you willing to make the rules?
Life is way too short to allow anyone else to make the rules for how you live!
