Leon Russell: Rock & Roll History
Submitted by Rock and Roll Guru Blog
April 2, 1941: Leon Russell was born.
It’s hard to know where to begin when talking about the great Leon Russell. There’s his beautifully distinctive voice, the brilliant songwriting and his outstanding piano playing.
This cat has played with more diverse artists than virtually anyone I can think of, from the Rolling Stones to Frank Sinatra and all points in between.
Leon has done so many things that make my heart sing, but none more than the Mad Dogs & Englishmen tour he orchestrated with Joe Cocker and Rita Coolidge. Well, maybe his rendition of George Harrison’s “Beware of Darkness.”
Suffice it to say, Leon will undoubtedly be inducted into the soon-to-be unveiled Guru’s Garage of Giants.
Led Zep, the Stones and The Who are just some of our favorites. Any modern bands come to mind? What are your thoughts? Register on Rock and Roll Blog now and get published within minutes. Before posting, it is recommended that you review our posting guidelines.
