Rock & Roll Singers: Conspicuous Only In Their Absence

As we flew home yesterday after celebrating Thanksgiving down south, I was reading the most recent issue of Rolling Stone magazine. In case you haven’t yet seen it, their cover story is the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time.

I’m not gonna list my top 100, or even the people I would delete from their list, because that would require way too much work…and I’m allergic to that. Suffice it to say approximately half the people on their list would also be on my list. However, if I ever did undertake such a venture I can guarantee the following people who were left off the Rolling Stone list would be on mine (in no particular order):

Grace Slick

Bob Weir

Jerry Garcia

Carole King

Carly Simon

Eric Clapton

Tom Petty

Elvis Costello

Paul Simon (Artie was already on their list)

Graham Nash

David Crosby

Southside Johnny

John B. Sebastian

Peter Townshend

George Harrison

Boz Scaggs

Cat Stevens (Yusuf Islam)

Donald Fagen

Chrissy Hynde

Warren Zevon

Todd Rundgren

Justin Hayward

Phoebe Snow

Leon Russell

Jimi Hendrix

Frank Zappa

Joe Walsh

Mark Knopfler

Debby Harry

Ray Davies

Susan Tedeschi

David Byrne

Stevie Ray Vaughn

Dave Mason

Michael McDonald

Harry Nilsson

Meatloaf

This was pretty much off the top of my head, so I probably missed a few.

Who would you add to the Rolling Stone list?
