November 29, 1933: John Mayall was born.

According to Eric Clapton, “John Mayall has actually run an incredibly great school for musicians.” That is an understatement.

In addition to Clapton and Jack Bruce, some of the musicians who cut their teeth as members of Mayall’s Bluesbreakers include Peter Green, John McVie, Mick Fleetwood, Mick Taylor and Andy Fraser. At one time or another the iconic Mayall has played with scores of rock and blues superstars, from John Lee Hooker and Sonny Boy Williamson to Billy Preston, Buddy Guy and Steve Miller.

Although he officially disbanded the Bluesbreakers earlier this year, it’s great to see that at 75 John Mayall is still going strong and planning tour dates for 2009.
